Tirthan Valley is an offbeat, river-side valley in Inner Seraj region of Kullu district in Himachal Pradesh, forming the gateway to the Great Himalayan National Park – UNESCO The World Heritage Site and The Pin Parvati Valley.
The Valley, Known as the home to several Gods and Goddesses. Tirthan Valley is named after the River Tirthan Flowing through the valley. Having great attraction both for the Indian as well as foreign tourists due to its wilderness, landscapes, beautiful forests, wildlife & Culture.
Valley is famous for trout fishing in Tirthan river. Now after recognition of Great Himalayan National Park as world heritage site added another charm to the valley. The Tirthan Valley is in middle Himalayan range and if one goes toward east, the peaks progressively keeps increasing in height.
Tirthan Valley lies on the alternate route to Kullu from Shimla & Connected to the unexplored region of Himachal (Can be called as Hidden Himachal). The names of many places in this valley commemorate saints who came here to meditate in the great sanctuary of Himalayas.

Where is Tirthan Valley Located

Tirthan Valley located in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh, around 45 Kms from Mandi, 35 Kms from Kullu and 75 Kms from Manali. Tirthan Valley is not a particular landmark or place, The Valley refers to the multiple villages located on the bank of Holy Tirthan River starting from Larji – The First Village in Valley till the origin of river passing thru Ropa (Tinder Village).
Also known as the valley of God, the home to several Gods and Goddesses. Tirthan Valley is named after the River Tirthan Flowing through the valley, that originates from the Tirth, i.e, the core of Great Himalayan National Park – UNESCO The World Heritage Site.
Valley has a great attraction both for the Indian as well as foreign tourists due to its wilderness, landscapes, beautiful forests, wildlife, small villages, trout streams and homestays.

About Great Himalayan National Park – UNESCO The World Heritage

Great Himalayan National Park is listed among the 32 world heritage sites in India .In June 2014, the UNESCO added the GHNP to the list of World Heritage Sites and grant the “exceptional natural beauty and conservation of biological diversity” status to it.
GHNP covers the area of 1171 sq kms . It is the major source of water for the rural and urban centers of the region GHNP .GHNP includes the water source origins of glacial and snow melt rivers . The four major rivers of the area originating from park are Jiva Nal, Sainj river , Tirthan river and the north- westerly flowing Parvati River .Also it is the source of sustenance and livelihood for the local community.
GHNP is home to several rare and threatened species including the western tragopan, chir pheasant, snow leopard, Himalayan musk deer, Asiatic black bear, Himalayan tahr, blue sheep and serow. Some 25 threatened IUCN red-listed plant species are ralso present in park.
Most of the Himalayan fauna has been given protection under Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.

How to reach

From Delhi it is approx. 10–12 hours by road (Overnight Volvo to Aut or By Taxi). You have to reach Aut Tunnel on the Chandigarh – Manali Highway; and leave the highway from AUT Tunnel. From Aut drive To Larji Dam Reservoir – The Upcoming Hub for water sports activities.
You will Reach Larji Village, The First Village of Valley.

Another road via Shimla, Luhri, and via Jalori Pass usually closed during snowfall.

Best Time To Visit

The best time to visit Tirthan Valley is from March to June and September to November, which offers pleasant weather, lush green landscapes, and ideal conditions for treks and exploring the natural beauty.
